AOPA Working for You

AOPA Working for You Expands to Newsletter

"I had no idea AOPA does so much! The O&P community really needs to see this.”

AOPA volunteer leaders frequently express surprise when they receive their first board report, which summarizes AOPA’s activities over a three-month period.

As an AOPA member, you can’t take advantage of how we’re working for you unless you know what we’re doing.

As a consequence, AOPA is expanding “AOPA Working for You” into a newsletter of the same name that will give you a bird’s-eye view of AOPA’s activities on your behalf, from advancing your interests on Capitol Hill to working with other agencies to secure O&P quality standards.

AOPA mailed the first edition to members in May. Here are some highlights:

  • AOPA President Ted Snell, CP, wrote to former Sen. Robert Dole, co-chair of the President’s Military Commission on Health Care, commending the Walter Reed Medical Center policy of contracting O&P care to qualified private sector O&P facilities, and recommending that this practice be extended to all military and veterans’ hospitals.
  • AOPA is working with the O&P Alliance to contact CMS and express concern that it has allowed unqualified groups to provide O&P accreditation.
  • Using Arkansas’ recent passage of a licensure law as an introduction, AOPA contacted Attorneys General in other states with licensure, encouraging them to enforce their existing statutes and ensure that qualified O&P professionals are providing patient care.
  • National Assembly registration kicked off a month early this year with a special $90 discount for AOPA members (restrictions apply), in celebration of AOPA’s 90th birthday. Exhibit booth space is nearly sold out.

What do you think? Now that you’ve seen more of what AOPA does, we invite you to recommend or share your views on AOPA activities. Contact Meredith Mengel at mmengel@AOPA net.org or call (571) 431-0876, ext. 232.

The newsletter version of "AOPA Working for You" will be distributed by mail. To get your copy, send your name, company and address to Corrinn Mullins at cmullins@AOPAnet.org or call (571) 431-0876, ext. 260.
