Young Professionals Take the Reins of O&P

In the last few years, a legion of new, enthusiastic and well-educated professionals have charged into the O&P field, armed with residency experience, classroom knowledge and business skills.

They are BOC-certified, ABC-certified and state-licensed. They hold bachelor's degrees and master's degrees. They are fitters, practitioners, business owners, researchers, manufacturers and daily students of an ever-changing and challenging profession.

They marvel at how quickly the field has progressed in just a few decades and how significantly O&P awareness has grown.

And, although they know the various problems in the business—ranging from reimbursement, accreditation, direct access and qualified provider language issues—they are eager to face the demands of each new day.

The O&P Almanac caught up with a few of these young professionals to get their take on where the O&P field is headed, what the top issues are and how they plan to contribute.

Their responses reflect the passion and the drive this profession needs to continue the tradition of excellent care, smart business practices, innovative research and advanced technology.

Read on to meet the next generation of young O&P professionals.
