April 22-23 2009
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) kicked off the Policy Forum program with a
straight-forward analysis of the health care reform debate in Congress. Rep.
Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) echoed the Senator's remarks but also made a
passionate plea for enactment of the O&P-related legislation she will
introduce shortly that links service, qualifications and patient needs to
reimbursements.
This legislation will be the new version of H.R. 6878 she introduced in the last Congress. She acknowledged that chances were slim for passage of a stand-alone bill but a long list of sponsors could help assure that the provisions find a place in the final reform legislation.
The 82 AOPA members who took valuable time away from their businesses were
rewarded with an intensive schedule of 170 legislator meetings, briefings by
key health care policy makers, and a reality check by the team of AOPA
lobbyists
