Alexandria, VA — The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is proud to announce the first-ever class of O&P Rising Stars, a new program honoring outstanding early- and mid-career professionals whose innovation, leadership, and dedication are shaping the future of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P).
The inaugural class includes:
Janine Albrecht, MSOP, CPO, WillowWood
Nominated by Charlie Huizinga, Janine has distinguished herself as a leader in clinical innovation and product development. She was instrumental in launching the award-winning META Flow foot and Intuy Knee, advancing patient access to next-generation prosthetic technology. With her engineering expertise, research contributions, and commitment to education, Janine exemplifies the profession’s ability to combine science and compassion.
On what Janine enjoys most about O&P she said, “Working in the O&P profession is deeply fulfilling because it allows me to contribute to life-changing outcomes for individuals with limb loss. I’ve had the privilege of providing direct patient care, delivering orthoses and prostheses, and educating clinicians on WillowWood’s product lines and best practices. I especially enjoy collaborating with passionate professionals and learning from both colleagues and patients. As a Product Manager, I find great satisfaction in guiding the development and launch of innovative prosthetic solutions. The continuous advancements in the field inspire me, especially knowing they positively impact people like my father. Being part of this evolving profession keeps me energized and hopeful for the future.”
Cassandra Delgado, MSPO, CPO, Coyote O&P
Nominated by Jennifer Fayter, Cassandra is recognized for her creativity, enthusiasm, and advocacy efforts. As Clinical Director for Coyote and Prosthetic and Orthotic Associates, she empowers clinicians and patients alike, with a special focus on ensuring Spanish-speaking patients have access to high-quality care. Her leadership extends nationally and internationally through her service on professional committees and the mentoring of future practitioners.
When asked why Cassandra likes being in O&P, she said, “I love being able to empower myself, other clinicians, and most importantly our patients. I can become a better clinician each day and continue to grow in this field, challenge myself, and explore all the avenues that the field of O&P offers. I can directly positively influence other clinicians, residents, care extenders, and students by sharing the knowledge I have been also taught in a very practical daily application. My favorite is empowering patients and teaching them how to advocate for themselves and their care.”
Dr. Malaka “Graci” Finco, PhD, CPO, Texas Christian University
Nominated by Fanny Schultea, MS, MSEd, CPO, LP, FAAOP(D), Graci is a trailblazer in O&P research and mentorship. As Director of the Limb Loss and Difference Lab at TCU, her work in fall risk, musculoskeletal health, and ethics in technology is elevating evidence-based care. With multiple sources of federal funding and an active role on the O&P Foundation Board, Graci represents the best of clinician-driven research, advancing knowledge while keeping patients at the center.
From Dr. Finco on what she enjoys most about being a part of O&P, “I enjoy the strong sense of community that O&P embodies- particularly when advocates, patients, researchers, and clinicians come together to create actionable changes in O&P care. I am grateful that our field supports O&P clinicians to perform clinically-relevant research that ultimately improves care and elevates our profession. I would not have been able to pursue or continue my research without my O&P support system. I am fortunate to now be part of that O&P support system for others, as well as have the opportunity to create structures to further support clinical research and the broader O&P community through the O&P Foundation.”
Launched in 2025, AOPA’s O&P Rising Stars program highlights emerging leaders who are advancing patient care, driving innovation, and strengthening the O&P profession. Through their achievements, these O&P Rising Stars demonstrate the values of collaboration, excellence, and service that define O&P.
“AOPA is thrilled to celebrate Janine, Cassandra, and Dr. Finco as our first O&P Rising Stars,” said Teri Kuffel, JD, AOPA Executive Director. “Each of them demonstrates the energy, innovation, and commitment that is moving our profession forward. Their achievements remind us that the future of O&P is bright and filled with promise.”
“AOPA Rising Stars shine a spotlight on the next generation of leaders,” added Rick Riley, AOPA President. “This program recognizes the impact they are already making in research, clinical care, product innovation, and advocacy—and inspires all of us to support and invest in the profession’s future.”
