WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is pleased to announce the winners of the annual student poster awards.

Tyler Klenow as the recipient of the fifth annual Otto and Lucille Becker Award for his orthotic abstract, “A Functional Comparison of a Carbon Fiber AFO and Two Modular KAFO Conditions Using Outcome Measures in a Veteran Subject with Traumatic Brain Injury.” Tyler is a resident at James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital, and graduated with a Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics from Eastern Michigan University.

Lisa Abernathy, of Alabama State University, is the recipient of the fifth annual Edwin and Kathryn Arbogast Award for her prosthetic abstract, “Going Back In Time: A Content Analysis On The Media Portrayal Of Characters With Antiquated Prostheses.

The purpose of these awards is to honor two meritorious scientific papers submitted for presentation as a poster during the AOPA National Assembly and to encourage students and residents to display outstanding posters at the AOPA Annual Assembly.

The award recipients are invited to present their posters at the National Assembly, and are entitled to a $500 cash award, complimentary Assembly registration, up to 3 nights of hotel accommodations, airfare to the Assembly, and recognition during the awards ceremony. These awards are made possible by generous endowments from Becker Orthopedic and Willow Wood.

AOPA President, Charles H. Dankmeyer, Jr., CPO, remarked that “Tyler and Lisa represent the most promising of our future O&P professionals, and I am proud to say that our patients are in good hands.”

The honorees will be presented with the Awards at the 2015 AOPA National Assembly in San Antonio, TX, at the General Session and AOPA Annual Business Meeting on Friday, October 9 at 7:30 am.
