Investment reinforces AOPA’s longstanding commitment to expanding access to orthotic and prosthetic care for all in need and advancing the So Every BODY Can Move movement.
Alexandria, VA (October 28, 2026) – The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is proud to announce a financial commitment of $1 million to support the So Every BODY Can Move initiative between now through November 2028, reinforcing its dedication to advancing access to orthotic and prosthetic care and supporting the individuals and communities who depend on it.
So Every BODY Can Move has emerged as one of the most successful grassroots advocacy movements focused on improving access to activity-specific orthotic and prosthetic care. Currently, 15 states have passed the So Every BODY Can Move legislation. AOPA’s commitment will help build on that momentum and support the initiative’s ongoing efforts and ambitious goal of securing legislation in 28 states by the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since the inception of So Every BODY Can Move, AOPA has been a dedicated partner, helping advance the movement’s mission to ensure that individuals with limb loss and limb difference have access to the orthotic and prosthetic care they need to lead active, healthy lives. The financial commitment represents the next chapter in that longstanding partnership and reflects AOPA’s belief in the power of collaboration, advocacy, and collective action to create meaningful lasting change.
“From the very beginning, AOPA has believed in the mission of So Every BODY Can Move and the tremendous ability of this movement to change lives,” said Kimberly Hanson, President of AOPA. “We are incredibly proud to make this commitment and to continue standing alongside the passionate advocates, patients, and organizations who have worked tirelessly to advance this important cause. This investment is about more than supporting legislation. It’s about creating a future where access to appropriate orthotic and prosthetic care is not a barrier to living a full and active life.”
“AOPA’s commitment comes at a pivotal moment for this movement,” said Dr. Carmen Elliott, CEO of the Amputee Coalition, the backbone organization for So Every BODY Can Move. “As the movement builds momentum, expands its reach, and advances efforts to improve insurance coverage for activity-specific orthotic and prosthetic care, AOPA’s leadership and partnership have never been more important. We are deeply grateful for this investment, which strengthens our shared fight and proves what is possible when organizations unite around the limb loss and limb difference community.”
“As someone who lives with limb loss myself, I know the injustice of being told that physical activity, or even something as basic as showering safely, is not medically necessary when you need orthotic or prosthetic care to do it,” said Nicole Ver Kuilen, National Campaign Lead for So Every BODY Can Move. “Our advocates refuse to take no for an answer, and they’ve changed the law in 15 states. Reaching 28 states by 2028 is our next goal, but we’re fighting for 100% of lives covered through legislation in all 50 states and federal reform, a multi-million-dollar effort. AOPA’s investment is a powerful vote of confidence, and we’re grateful to have them alongside us until every person with limb loss or limb difference has the freedom to move.”
Through this commitment, AOPA looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with So Every BODY Can Move leadership, advocates, and partners to build on the progress already achieved and help move critical initiatives forward. AOPA recognizes that the movement’s success depends on the collective efforts of the entire community and remains committed to supporting those efforts on behalf of and alongside AOPA members.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for So Every BODY Can Move, and we are thrilled that AOPA is in a position to make such a significant financial commitment,” said Teri Kuffel, JD, Executive Director of AOPA. “With the 2028 Paralympic Games on the horizon and the ambitious goal of reaching 28 states, there is tremendous opportunity to build on the incredible success already underway. We see this commitment as an investment in the future of our community, in the strength of this movement, and most importantly, in the lives of the individuals who benefit from this legislation.”
AOPA is proud of what So Every BODY Can Move has accomplished and even more excited about what lies ahead. Together, we look forward to continuing this important work, strengthening the community, expanding access to care, and making a lasting difference in the lives of individuals across the country.
