On February 27, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that they would be implementing a temporary six-month nationwide moratorium on enrollment for select DMEPOS supplier companies.

The moratorium affected the initial enrollment applications and changes in majority ownership of the following supplier types:

  • Medical supply company
  • Medical supply company with orthotics personnel
  • Medical supply company with pedorthic personnel
  • Medical supply company with prosthetics personnel
  • Medical supply company with prosthetic and orthotic personnel
  • Medical supply company with registered pharmacist
  • Medical supply company with respiratory therapist

On August 27, 2026, the initial 6-month moratorium officially expired and CMS has decided not to extend it another 6-months. This means the National Provider Enrollment (NPE) Contractors (Palmetto GBA and Novitas Solutions) will now accept initial enrollment applications from the DMEPOS supplier types listed above.
