Competitive Bidding Areas
A competitive bidding area (CBA) is an area where only DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program contract suppliers may furnish competitively bid items to Medicare beneficiaries. CBAs are based on metropolitan statistical areas, which are areas designated by the Office of Management and Budget, that include major cities and their surrounding suburban areas.
For Round 2021 CMS is consolidating the CBAs included in previous rounds of competitive bidding for a total of 130 CBAs in 42 states and the District of Columbia. The CBAs are identified by cities and ZIP codes.
