RATE Partnership

AOPA Partners with Journal of Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies Engineering

Alexandria, VA (February 3, 2021) – Today, the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is pleased to announce our partnership with the Journal of Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies Engineering (RATE). Published by SAGE Publishing, RATE is a peer-reviewed, open access, interdisciplinary journal, focusing on the engineering aspects and practical applications of rehabilitation and assistive technologies. It is a highly respected publication that is indexed in PubMed Central and Web of Science*.

“We are excited about this partnership and what it means for both AOPA and the profession,” said AOPA Executive Director Eve Lee, MBA, CAE. “AOPA is committed to furthering orthotic and prosthetic research and implementing quality improvement initiatives. This partnership will bolster the dissemination of evidence-based science, broaden the reach of O&P research to include a more diverse cohort of rehabilitation professionals, and most importantly, improve patient outcomes.”

“The scope of assistive technology is particularly broad, embracing for instance, robotic devices, IT systems, cognitive assistance and much more,” said Professor Garth Johnson, Editor-in-Chief of RATE. “However, for many health care professionals, the field of prosthetics and orthotics is regarded as core activity. For this reason, I am particularly pleased to be able to announce a partnership between the journal and AOPA to further orthotics and prosthetics research. We look forward to receiving regular submissions from AOPA members and to seeing Special Collections within their specialty as a result of the partnership.”

In addition to increasing publication opportunities and the visibility of orthotics and prosthetics research, AOPA members are eligible for a reduced Article Processing Charge (APC), if their manuscript is accepted for publication in the journal following peer review. To qualify for this discount, the submitting author must be an AOPA member. Additionally, since RATE is an open access journal, members will be able to access all published content and share articles of interest with colleagues. Members will also be encouraged to submit to an Annual Special Collection in the journal, featuring papers from AOPA’s National Assembly. Finally, AOPA will have representation on the RATE Editorial Board.
