Why the Shift to a Virtual Format?

Several key factors influenced this decision, including:

  • The impact of a new Administration and Congressional leadership (including leadership changes in key committees).
  • The timing of the introduction of the Medicare O&P Patient-Centered Care Act.
  • The ability to increase participation of O&P professionals, students and patients in shaping the future of O&P policy, as a virtual format eliminates travel and cost barriers.

Access the agenda for May 6 Education Session.

KEY DATES:

  • Education Session: Tuesday, May 6, 1-5 pm ET
  • Congressional Meetings Conducted by Zoom: May 7-8 and May 12-15 (NOTE: You only need to be prepared to participate in one Senate and one House meeting whenever they are scheduled on these days.)

During the virtual education session, subject matter experts from AOPA will be joined by representatives from the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) and the Amputee Coalition to discuss the new political climate in DC, provide details on the O&P policy initiatives, and walk through virtual and in-person advocacy strategies. There will also be discussion about AOPA’s efforts to support the advocacy activities of all the sister organizations of the O&P Alliance. Finally, we are very excited to announce we will end with a discussion with Senator Tammy Duckworth!

As we did in 2021 (the last time we were virtual), AOPA will schedule and coordinate all Senate meetings. For House meetings, Policy Forum attendees will be provided with contact information for their Representative based on the address used when registering and will be asked to work with others who have the same Representative to schedule their own meetings at a time that works best for the groups schedule. For both the House and Senate meetings, AOPA staff will provide support when requested to facilitate a positive Policy Forum experience for all. More details on this process will come later this month.

Registration is $99 for members and goes to administering and supporting an impactful Policy Forum. If you are a student or resident, contact Ashley Vande Bunte at avandebunte@AOPAnet.org to secure the complimentary registration.

Registering early helps with the scheduling of Hill visits, please try to register as soon as possible so that the appropriate Hill visits can be scheduled.
